Ungerndorf (municipality of Laa)

Ungerndorf is a village in the municipality of Laa an der Thaya in Lower Austria .

The village is located south of Laa an der Thaya between Altenmarkt and Hagendorf on the southern edge of the Laa Bay .

history

The place was founded between 907 and 955 in the course of the Hungarian invasions , after they had defeated the East Franconian army in the Battle of Pressburg in 907 and then took over the country. In 955 the Hungarians were defeated and pushed back in the battle of the Lechfeld .

"Ungerndorf" was first mentioned in a document in 1304. Due to its strategically favorable position, the place was besieged by the Prussians in the Hussite Wars , in the Swedish War and also during the march on Vienna in 1866. But also in the last days of the Second World War , on April 19, 1945, fierce fighting took place in Ungerndorf, with over 20 Russian and two German tanks being shot down and Ungerndorf being looted by the Russians and most of them burned down.
