Ungulani Ba Ka Khosa

Ungulani Ba Ka Khosa (pseudonym of Francisco Esaú Cossa; born August 1, 1957 in Inhaminga , Portuguese East Africa ) is a Mozambican writer.

Life

Khosa studied history and geography at the educational faculty of Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo and then worked as a teacher. He began his writing career by publishing short stories. He helped found Charrua magazine . He is also a member of the Mozambican Writers' Association (AEMO).

His novel Ualalapi was awarded the Grande Prémio da Ficção Narrativa in 1990 and the Prémio Nacional de Ficção in 1994. In 2002 an independent commission in Ghana declared the work one of the 100 best African books of the 20th century.

In 2007 Khosa won the Prémio José Craveirinha for his book Os Sobreviventes da Noite .
