Union Black -

Union Black is the fourth studio album by the Welsh metal band Skindred . It was released on April 25, 2011 in the UK and July 1 of the same year in the rest of Europe. In addition to the crossover style known as " ragga metal", which is typical for Skindred, the album also contains elements from dubstep and drum and bass .

background

The album was produced by James Loughrey at Britannia Row Studios . It was the first time the band recorded in the UK with an English producer. Bassist Dan Pugsley stated in an interview that he was pleased that the album was being made in the UK, as this would allow more freedom than working in the USA .

When asked about the name of the album, singer Benji Webbe said in an interview with the music magazine Kerrang that Union Black is a tribute to diversity in Great Britain : "We all have different backgrounds, [...] but when you mix all the colors together, you get black. " He also said that he originally Corey Taylor of Slipknot had for cooperation in mind; Due to scheduling problems on the part of Taylor, Papa Roach singer Jacoby Shaddix can be heard on the song Warning , who recorded vocals for the piece in the studio. The song premiered on Daniel Carter's show on BBC Radio 1 on February 28th . The corresponding video was published on April 6th on Youtube.

The release of the album was followed by a promotional tour of the UK, with Skindred receiving musical support from Chiodos and Me vs Hero . Further concerts followed in summer 2011, including at the Wacken Open Air 2011 and the Download Festival 2011.

reception

The album was received well to very well by many critics. Trash Hits gave the album 5.5 / 6 stars with the recommendation that "this is the Skindred album we've all been waiting for."

The album is also highly praised by Alexander Riede on generation-one.de . It awards 6 out of 6 points and comes to the following conclusion:

“Union Black in any case is one of those albums that you can't get out of your head anytime soon, that you always want to hear enthusiastically. [...] Above all, one is amazed at how carefree the four-piece band from Newport, Great Britain, switches back and forth between the ragga party mood and the force of nature, allowing both to merge into a moving unit in an almost incomprehensible perfection. "
