Union of Good

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Union of Good , abbreviated to UG ( Arabic ائتلاف الخير, DMG I'tilāf al-Hair  , Bunch of good '), also known as the Charity Coalition ( charity coalition known), is an umbrella organization of over 50 aid agencies to fund the Palestinian organization Hamas .

History and organization

The organization was founded in 2001 in Saudi Arabia shortly after the outbreak of the Al-Aqsa Intifada and is headed by Yusuf al-Qaradawi , a leading member of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood . The first activity of UG was the "101 Days Campaign" which began in May 2001 under the leadership of Qaradawi. The organization was banned in the entire territory of Israel in 2008 and listed as a terrorist organization in Executive Order 13224 of the US Treasury Department in November of that year . UG finances food parcels and school supplies in the Gaza Strip on behalf of Hamas and supports the fight against Israel, including through financial aid to families of suicide bombers . There are only guesses as to the amount of money spent.

According to the Israeli Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center , named after Meir Amit , UG has divided the Palestinian territories into four districts for the efficient distribution of finances. In the three districts of the West Bank ( North West Bank with headquarters in Nablus , Center West Bank with headquarters in Ramallah and South West Bank with headquarters in Hebron ), the financing runs through a coordinator appointed by UG, while UG operates independently in the Gaza Strip.
