The seat of the office was the capital of Sierra Leone , Freetown . The office was based on two different UN missions: UNIOSIL and UNIPSIL.

history

On August 4, 2008, the United Nations Security Council unanimously passed resolution 1829 (2008) and thus the establishment of the UNIPSIL mission, which is the successor to the UNIOSIL mission. On October 1, 2008, UNIOSIL was transformed into a scaled-down “Integrated Peacebuilding Office” (UNIPSIL), which was initially mandated by the UN Security Council until the summer of 2009. After the mission was extended by one year on September 15, 2009 by UN Security Council Resolution 1886 (2009) , it finally expired on September 30, 2010.

tasks

The mission was intended to politically support and stabilize the government of Sierra Leone . The new tasks included the consolidation of good governance in Sierra Leone. According to the UN, the office should concentrate primarily on the fight against corruption and the decentralization of the country.
