United Nations Integrated Office for Sierra Leone (German: Integrated Office of the United Nations in Sierra Leone or UNIOSIL for short ) was the continuation of the UNAMSIL peace mission, United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone . The seat of the office was the capital of Sierra Leone, Freetown . The office was based on two different UN missions: UNIOSIL and UNIPSIL .

history

The office was established in 2006 after the end of UNAMSIL. On August 4, 2008, the United Nations Security Council unanimously passed resolution 1829 (2008) and thus the establishment of the UNIPSIL mission, which is the successor to the UNIOSIL mission. The mission expired on September 30, 2008 and was transferred to the UNIPSIL.

tasks

UNIOSIL's task was to consolidate the success of UNAMSIL and to help the government of Sierra Leone to strengthen human rights, to achieve the development goals set and to organize free elections in 2007.

There was the Truth and Reconciliation Commission as well as vocational training programs for ex-combatants designed to give them "nonviolent economic prospects". Not all programs went as desired or were seen locally as successful.
