The University of Allahabad ( इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय ) is a state university in Prayagraj in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh . She has successfully applied for funding for a "Center of Excellence" in the field of "Behavioral Cognitive Sciences".

The university was founded by William Muir on September 23, 1887 as Muir Central College and was the 5th after the University of Bombay , the University of Calcutta , the University of Madras and the University of the Punjab (now in Lahore , Pakistan ). University foundation in British India .
