This makes it the largest library in Carinthia .
history
The beginnings of the Klagenfurt University Library go back to the Collegium sapientiae et pietatis , founded in Klagenfurt in 1552 , a class library which offered teaching material to Protestant preachers. Before the Collegium was closed as part of the Counter-Reformation in 1601, Hieronymus Megiser (1593–1601), the last rector of the school, created the first library regulations and library index. From 1601 to 1775, the Jesuits ran the newly named Collegium Societas Jesu and during this time they considerably expanded the library's holdings, mainly ecclesiastical and legal. After 1775 the library was converted into a public institution and was later called the KK Study Library .
As a result of secularization at the end of the 18th century, the holdings of numerous monastery libraries were integrated into the Klagenfurt study library; In 1806 the Goëss library, a typical aristocratic library, was added - as the last substantial expansion until 1945. It was not until 1971, when the university was founded, that the study library became a university library ; 1972 to the university library of the University of Educational Sciences and finally to the university library of the University of Klagenfurt in 1993 (since 2004 Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt). Due to the expanded scope of duties, the library's resources and holdings have also grown considerably since then. The university library collects all works published in Carinthia.
