University Press of Kentucky

The University Press of Kentucky (UKP) is an American university publisher from Lexington , Kentucky . It had its origins at the University of Kentucky and was founded in 1969 as the successor to the University of Kentucky Press there. The publishing house is supported by the Thomas D. Clark Foundation , named after the historian Thomas D. Clark .

The publisher currently represents thirteen state and private colleges in Kentucky ( Bellarmine University , Berea College , Center College of Kentucky , Eastern Kentucky University , Georgetown College , Kentucky State University , Morehead State University , Murray State University , Northern Kentucky University , Transylvania University , University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, and Western Kentucky University ) and two history societies ( Kentucky Historical Society and The Filson Historical Society ).

The focus of the program is on humanities and social sciences , with publications from the fields of film and military studies in particular gaining supraregional importance. Well-known writers from the state are authors (including Harriet Arnow , Janice Holt Giles , John Fox, Jr. , James Still and Jesse Stuart ), and special regional topics also have their place in the publishing house. The University Press of Kentucky is also responsible for two encyclopedias (Kentucky, Louisville) and an atlas (Kentucky) as well as the Kentucky Nature Series and Kentucky Bicentennial Bookshelf from the 1970s.

The University Press of Kentucky is a member of the Association of American University Presses .
