Our Lady of Walsingham ( Our Lady of Walsingham ) is a Roman Catholic church of the Anglican Use in Houston , Texas . The planning of the basilica , based on the model of English Gothic churches, began in 1999 and was consecrated in 2011. Since the establishment of the Kathedra Petri staff ordinariate on January 1, 2012, it has been its main church.

history

In 1980 Pope John Paul II gave the Anglican rite legal status within the Roman Catholic Church with the pastoral commission and enabled the establishment of personal congregations of predominantly converted former Anglican (Episcopal) priests and lay people.

The transfer of two pastors and several laypeople from the Episcopal Diocese of Texas in 1984 marked the beginning of today's Houston ward and building. The community, which placed itself under the protection of Our Lady of Walsingham , grew and gathered for more than twenty years in rotating rooms that were set up for worship, meeting and social activities. The individual donation of an anonymous "lady" in 1999 formed the basis for the construction of today's church and the associated building ensemble, which also included the previous chapel built in 1992 - today St. Jude Hall . In May 2011, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston Cardinal Daniel DiNardo consecrated the Church. When in 2012 in accordance with the Constitution Anglicanorum coetibus Benedict XVI. The Kathedra Petri Personnel Ordinance for North America was established in 2009 and its center here.

The three-aisled basilica with transept and crenellated tower as well as the cloister that connects the church with the parish rooms are designed as a reminiscence of the Early English style . The complex also includes a scaled-down replica of the ruined portal of Walsingham Abbey in Walsingham, Norfolk, and a replica of the miraculous image of Our Lady of Walsingham .
