Live and act

Klotzsch was the son of the Dippoldiswalder mayor and legal consultant Andreas Klotzsch. After finishing school, he studied law in Wittenberg from 1744 to 1747 . In 1751 he became actuary in the Meißen district office . A short time later he went to Freiberg, because on May 5, 1753 he was elected to the city council. Since 1759 chief town clerk and assessor of the Berg and Schöppen chair , later also senator of the city of Freiberg.

In the following years he began his productive activity as a writer. The focus was on Saxon history and the history of mining . Particularly noteworthy are the origin of the mines in Saxony (1764) and the two-volume Chur-Sächsische Münzgeschichte (1779/1780), the standard work in the field for a long time. Between 1767 and 1777, together with Gottfried Immanuel Grundig, he edited 12 volumes of the collection of mixed news on Saxon history . It contained numerous essays written by him on historical topics.

Shortly before the end of his life, he was still working on an extended new edition of the Freiberg Chronicle, which was originally published in 1653 by Andreas Möller . Klotzsch was buried in the churchyard of Freiberg Cathedral , the so-called Green Cemetery , which was closed as a burial place in 1832. His library, comprising 2,739 items, was auctioned from June 7, 1790 in the former residential building on Obermarkt.
