Unshine is a symphonic metal band from Helsinki , Finland .

history

Unshine was created in May 2000 when Susanna Vesilahti first attended the band's rehearsals in the basement of Manala restaurant in Helsinki. The next few years were determined by rehearsals and composing. At the beginning of 2002 Unshine was able to release their first self-produced demo, Promo 2002 , with three pieces. The following summer she made her first public appearances.

In 2004 Unshine recorded their first album Earth Magick and signed a contract with Low Frequency Records. The debut album was released by the Crash Music label in 2005 in Finland and North America, where it received consistently good reviews. Her second album Enigma of Immortals was released in 2008. The album was also played by Bruce Dickinson on his radio show BBC Friday Rock Show . The single Animal Spirit reached number 13 on the Finnish charts. In 2009 a European tour followed, appearances with Amorphis and Lake of Tears as well as an appearance at the Sweden Rock Festival .

In 2012 the band signed with the German label Massacre Records , which released their third album Dark Half Rising on August 23, 2013 . It was a concept album about events that are said to have happened in the Ardennes during the Celtic era . The album also tells of the Gallic War . In September 2013 the band played at the sixth Festival Mediaval in Selb .

The band is currently working on their fourth album Astrala , due to be available on January 19, 2018 via Rockshots Records .

style

The style of Unshine is described in some reviews as Gothic Metal and atmospheric Symphonic Metal . The songs, which contain many allusions to mythology and folklore , relate to our forgotten dependence on the primal forces of nature. The band therefore calls their music "Druid Metal".
