The subunit 1B of the Arp 2/3 complex , shortened p41-ARC or just p41 because of the molar mass of just under kDa , is a structural protein from the SOP2 protein family and functions as one of seven subunits of the Arp 2/3 complex . The protein encoded by the ARPC1B gene on the seventh human chromosome shows strong similarities with subunit 1A . This similarity implies that both proteins may serve as the p41 subunit of the complex.

function

The subunit 1B interacts with Arp2 , Arp3 , p16 , p20 , p21 and p34 and forms the Arp 2/3 complex with them, which plays a crucial role in actin nucleation , the polymerization of G-actin to actin filaments. With its subunits Arp2 and 3 , the complex mimics an actin dimer , which is more stable than the dimer itself and thus serves as a center for further polymerization. The subunit B could be necessary especially for the structure of the complex. Besides, it is an activator, and a substrate for the Aurokinase A , from the family of Aurora kinases .
