Unternehmensgrün eV (spelling: UnternehmensGrün) is a nationwide association of companies, self-employed people and managers in Germany . Entrepreneurs have been involved in the association since 1992 with the aim of promoting environmental protection and bringing positions of sustainable economic activity into politics.

According to its own statements, the association is non-partisan and financially independent and it does not pursue any economic interests; it is recognized as a non-profit organization. The seat and the office are in Berlin . According to its own information, the association has more than 320 members (as of August 2019).

Foundation and board of directors

In July 1992 , 15 entrepreneurs around the brewery owner Gottfried Härle, the bank manager Eugen Schlachter , the printing company owner Rolf Bach, the industrial consultants Ulrich Martin Drescher , the blacksmith manufacturer Johannes Angele and Elmar Sing and the driving school entrepreneur Rainer Zeltwanger founded the SME lobby association for the promotion of environmentally friendly business in Stuttgart .

Goals and direction

The aim of the association is the ecological orientation and renewal of the economy as well as the innovation promotion of SMEs by means of advice and information for political mandate holders at the federal and state level.

  • Ecological orientation and renewal of the economy
  • Actively bring ideas of ecological economy into the political discussion
  • Promote social innovations in companies
  • Support regional, small and medium-sized business structures
  • Lobbying for an environmentally friendly and socially acting economy
  • Exchange of experience and networking with like-minded entrepreneurs

Today the association calls itself the "Federal Association of the Green Economy". The association is also open to craftsmen and service providers who feel committed to sustainable management in general, including at the personnel and capital level.

The association develops and discusses its political positions and does lobbying work through thematically oriented annual meetings, excursions, hearings and half-yearly "Berlintage" with parliamentary and ministerial discussions. The work in regional groups is intended to supplement these activities on a decentralized basis.

Project example: With the project “Junior Companies on the Way to Sustainable Management”, which was awarded by the United Nations, the association encourages students and trainees (juniors) to think and act in an entrepreneurial manner based on the principle of sustainable management. As part of the one-year collaboration in a real company, the juniors receive a basic understanding of the responsibility for economic, ecological and social goals in a company before they start their career. You can also be an entrepreneur through your own specific project. The project takes account of the fact that the generation addressed is particularly challenged to no longer consider economic processes without their ecological and social relevance.
