Unwan , also Unnonus , († January 27, 1029 in Bremen ) was Archbishop of Hamburg-Bremen since February 2, 1013 .

biography

Unwan comes from the Immedingen family and was related to Bishop Meinwerk in Paderborn and Countess Emma von Lesum . His father was probably Count Palatine Dietrich of Saxony . He was first canon in Paderborn and perhaps in Hildesheim . On Meinwerk's recommendation, he became royal chaplain to Heinrich II. This appointed him bishop instead of the vice-dominion Otto, elected by the cathedral chapter. The pallium Unwan received by Pope Benedict VIII.

In 1013 he gave the king his own property in Moringen, Bernshausen im Liesgau and Hohnstedt, so that he could pass it on to Paderborn. The goods probably came from Immediate heritage, as they are not far from the Plesse , a key point of Immediate allod . Unwan introduced the Aachen rule ( Institutiones Aquisgranenses ) in all canons of his diocese . Around 1015 he started to rebuild Hamburg, which was destroyed in 983 and attacked again in 1012. In 1019/20 he brokered peace between Henry II and the Billungers after the uprisings of Thietmar and Bernhard II.
