Urbahns White willow tensioner ( Cabera leptographa ) is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of the tensioner (Geometridae). The German name honors the entomologists Ernst and Herta Urbahn , who first detected the species in Germany.

features

butterfly

The moths reach a wingspan of 20 to 25 millimeters. They have glossy white colored wing tops. On the front wings three, on the hind wings two dark gray transverse lines stand out. The middle and inner transverse lines of the forewings are usually only weakly developed. Some dark longitudinal scales are distributed over the wing surface, especially in the costal field of the forewings. The antennae of the males are combed on both sides. The forehead is darkened yellow-brown in the upper area.

Egg, caterpillar, pupa

The egg is shiny, bright, brass-colored, approx. 0.5 to 0.7 millimeters long, has an oval shape, is strongly flattened on the underside and has a weak network sculpture that is somewhat more pronounced on the micropyle .

Adult caterpillars are green in color and have light segment incisions. The dark back line is edged in a wavy manner. The secondary ridge lines are yellow-white in color, the lateral lines are whitish and mostly dissolved in spots.

The pupae are glossy dark brown in color and show olive-green wing sheaths. The Kremaster has two large and six small hook bristles.

Similar species

  • The white- forehead whitewater ( Cabera pusaria ) differs through the more clearly defined dark transverse lines on the upper side of the wing and the always pure white forehead.
  • The brown-forehead whitewater ( Cabera exanthemata ) differs in the slightly yellow-gray over-dusting of the upper side of the wing and the brownish forehead.

The moths of the two aforementioned species are also slightly larger than Cabera leptographa . If there are still doubts during the determination, the species can be clearly assigned using a genital morphological examination.

distribution and habitat

The species, which occurs mainly in Central Asia, was first recorded in Germany in 1950 near Zehdenick . The species is considered a neozoon and was later found on the Zitzmannsdorfer Wiesen in Seewinkel and the Nanni-Au near Marchegg in Lower Austria . It prefers to live on bushy meadows in riverside areas.

Way of life

The main flight time of the moths is from mid-June to early August. You visit artificial light sources . The caterpillars develop mainly in July and August. They feed on the leaves of willow species ( Salix ), especially the creeping willow ( Salix repens ). The species overwinters as a pupa.
