Uri Gavriel ( Hebrew אורי גבריאל; Born April 3, 1955 in Bnei Berak , Israel ) is an Israeli actor .

Life

Uri Gavriel was born to Bertha and Gabriel Gavriel, Jewish immigrants from Iraq . In the meantime the family lived in Tel Aviv-Jaffa before they moved back to Bnei Berak. After his military service in the Israeli military, he studied acting from 1977 to 1979 at Nissan Nativ's acting studio . Gavriel has played theater since he was 17 and was able to establish himself in the Israeli theater scene before making his screen debut in Jacob Goldwasser's drama Mitahat La'af in 1982 . At the side of Moshe Ivgy and Makram Khoury , he played the main role of Sammy Ben-Tovim.

From the 1980s on, Gavriel starred in several Israeli films that were distributed internationally. Among other things, he played in Delta Force , The Steel Eagle and The Steel Eagle II . He had his greatest success for his portrayal as Franco in Eyal Halfon's drama Welcome to Israel , for which he was awarded the Ophir Award , the Israeli film prize , for Best Actor in 2005 . Most recently, Gavriel starred as a blind inmate in Christopher Nolan's epic thriller The Dark Knight Rises .
