Urs Gasser (born April 28, 1972 in Solothurn ) is a Swiss legal scholar .

Urs Gasser heads the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University , is a professor at Harvard Law School and visiting professor at Keiō University in Japan and at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. Before that, Gasser was a professor at the University of St. Gallen and head of the research center for information law. There he graduated in law in 1997 and received his doctorate in 2001; his dissertation on causality and attribution of information as a legal problem (CH Beck, Munich 2002) was awarded the Rudolf Mäder Prize of the University of St. Gallen in 2002 and the Professor Walther Hug Prize in 2003.

With a Landon H. Gammon Fellowship , Gasser completed his LL.M. - Harvard Law School program.

One focus of his research is the relationship between law and innovation and the regulation of digital media and technologies.

In August 2018, Gasser was appointed to the newly founded 10-member digital council of the German federal government.
