Ursula Eicker
Ursula Eicker (* 1963 in Aachen ) is a German physicist and university lecturer . Since 2019 she has been Professor and Chair of Next Generation Cities at Concordia University, Canada . She was previously a professor at the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences .
Life
Eicker grew up in Bochum and originally wanted to become a guitarist after graduating from high school . After graduating from high school, however, she decided to study physics , which she took to the universities in Mainz and Berlin. There she specialized in solid state physics . After graduation, she moved to the Heriot-Watt University , where she in 1989 with a thesis on Optical studies of amorphous silicon alloys for optoelectronic and photovoltaic devices doctorate . She then moved to Paris , where she worked for a company for two years, working on silicon coatings for solar cells .
After a stay as a research assistant at the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg , she was appointed professor for building physics at the University of Technology in Stuttgart at the age of 29 , where she was employed until 2019. There she was at the same time dean for the master’s course “Sustainable Energy Competence” and head of the “Institute for Applied Research”.
There she set up two centers for applied research on sustainable energy technology as well as energy systems and resource efficiency. Since moving to Concordia University in 2019, she has been on leave in Stuttgart. At Concordia University she works a. a. of urban data management as well as simulations, technologies and strategies for carbon-free and sustainable cities.
Her main research interests include a. the lighting and solar technology , solar thermal and solar air conditioning and building simulations and building automation .
