Ursula von Rosenfeld

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ursula von Rosenfeld (* around 1499; † February 26, 1538 ) was the second wife of Margrave Ernst von Baden . Through her son Karl, she is the ancestral mother of all later Grand Dukes of Baden.

Life

Ursula was born around 1499 as the youngest child of the noble Wolf von Rosenfeld († 1500) and his wife Anna Bombast von Hohenheim . Wolf was mayor of the Württemberg city of Rosenfeld . According to local tradition, the family home is the stately "Ursulahaus" from the early 15th century.

As a maid of honor, Ursula belonged to the wife of the Baden Margravine Elisabeth of Brandenburg-Ansbach-Kulmbach , the first wife of Margrave Ernst. In the Zimmerische Chronik it says: " After he died [the Margravine Elisabeth], marggraf Ernst got a noble von Rosenfeldt, who had been with his husband in the frawenzimmer before, from whom he got many deniers ."

Margravine Elisabeth died on May 31, 1518. Ernst and Ursula were married soon after, probably in the same year. Although it was an improper connection between an imperial prince and a lower noblewoman, it was not a morganatic marriage in the legal sense, because Ursula rose to margravine with the marriage. On her tomb she is appropriately referred to as the “illustrious mistress Ursula, margravine in Baden and Hochberg, wife of the illustrious prince, Herr Ernst, margrave in Baden and Hochberg” (“ILL. DNA VRSV = LA MARCHIONISSA / BADEN ET HOCHBERG ILLVSTRIS PRINCIPIS / DNI ERNESTI MARCHIONIS IN BADEN ET HOCHBERG CONIUNX ”).

Ursula died on February 26, 1538 and was buried in the Pforzheim Castle Church. Ernst commissioned a double tomb in the form of a tumba in her honor , which stands in a prominent position in the center of the choir of the castle church.

progeny

The number and names of the children from her marriage to Ernst von Baden are not fully recorded. The following are certainly attested as descendants:

  • Margarete (* 1519; † 1571), married Count Wolfgang II of Oettingen (* 1511; † 1572) on November 12, 1538
  • Salome († 1549), married in 1540 to Count Ladislaus von Fraunberg-Haag (1505–1566)
  • Charles II (July 24, 1529 - March 23, 1577), Margrave of Baden-Durlach
