The Uruch ( Russian Уру́х ) is a left tributary of the Terek in the Russian republics of North Ossetia-Alania and Kabardino-Balkaria in the North Caucasus .

The Uruch originates in North Ossetia-Alania on the northern flank of the Greater Caucasus . From there it flows in a north-northeast direction. It flows northwest to the large village and Rajonverwaltungssitz Tschikola over, and finally flows over the city Terek in the upper reaches of the Terek.

The Uruch has a length of 104 km. It drains an area of ​​1280 km². The Uruch is mainly fed by meltwater from the glaciers and snowmelt . The mean discharge 47 km above the mouth is 20.2 m³ / s. The river is ice-covered between December and March every year.

Some of the river water is diverted through the Digerski irrigation canal for irrigation purposes .
