The Uruguay Montevideo Football Club , or Uruguay Montevideo FC for short , is a sports club from Montevideo in Uruguay . The club's soccer team plays in the top Uruguayan amateur division, the Segunda División B Amateur , in the 2014/15 season .
history
The association was founded on January 5, 1921 in the Montevidean Barrio Pueblo Victoria . The name of the club was chosen based on the two destroyers of the same name of the Uruguayan Navy, which were called "Uruguay" and "Montevideo". In 1936, the club's team won the Divisional Extra championship . In 1950, 1955, 1957, 1965, 1993 and 2002 the club became champions in the third-rate Segunda División Amateur , which was sometimes referred to as Primera C, Divisional Intermedia and Liga Metropolitana Amateur during this period. The team coached by Eduardo Gómez secured their last title win in 2002 and the subsequent promotion to the Segunda División with a 4-1 win in the championship play-off final against La Luz Tacurú FC . In the second highest professional league in Uruguay, they finished 12th in the final table the following year. The club's top goalscorer that season was Francisco Marcelo Garate with nine goals. In 2004 Uruguay Montevideo was 15th, the 2005 season was ninth. In the 2006 season they reached 6th place after the first phase of the season. The team did not qualify for the subsequent knock-out phase. The 2006/07 season ended prematurely for the club. After an eighth place in the Apertura , the team was withdrawn to the Clausura due to economic problems. Nevertheless, they appeared in second class in professional football in the 2007/08 season. After the Apertura, during which the club was suspended after the 12th match day due to unbalanced liabilities, they were in 18th and last place in the table. The federation refused to allow the team to take part in matches at the Clausura. In the following season 2008/09 the Uruguay Montevideo FC belonged again to the Segunda Divisiónal B Amateur. In the top amateur class they qualified in the 2009/10 season as second in the Apertura with equal points for a play-off final for the first round championship. However, coach Alejandro Cardozo's team lost to the Huracán Football Club . In the Clausura 2010, Uruguay Montevideo retained the upper hand and won the second round championship. However, they lost in the final to the season championship and promotion again to the Huracán FC. The eleven, now looked after by Saúl Rivero , had reached a 1-1 draw after regular time and extra time. The subsequent penalty shootout , however, decided the league and city rivals 4-3 in his favor. The 2011/12 season in the Segunda División B Amateur ended in 5th place in the season's final table. After completing the Apertura 2014, the club's team finished 5th.
