The Huracán Football Club , or Huracán FC or Huracán for short , is a football club from Montevideo in Uruguay . The club's first team plays in the second-highest Uruguayan division, the Segunda División , in the 2014/15 season .

history

The club, also known as Club Huracán del Paso de la Arena , was founded on August 1, 1954 as a result of the merger of the clubs Club Atlético Charrúa and La Esquinita Football Club . The members of the two merging associations were mainly recruited from students of the Liceo Bauzá . The club is located in the Barrio Paso de la Arena . Initially, the club's teams played in various championships on a barrial level. In 1962, the Huracán FC joined the Uruguayan football association Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol . In 1978 the club's soccer team won the championship in Primera D. 1983 and in 1990 the club secured the title in the top amateur class, the Segunda División Amateur. At least since 1996 the team of the club appeared in the third division and thus in the highest Uruguayan amateur league. In 1997 they finished in this division, which was then called Liga Metropolitana Amateur de Fútbol , in 7th place after the first phase of the season and thus did not play for promotion. After they missed the promotion round in 1998 as eighth in the table, the team Huracáns qualified in 1999 as fourth in the table for the second phase of the season, in which they finished second behind the later champions and promoted Villa Teresa . In 2000, Huracán FC, like the clubs Oriental de La Paz and Deportivo Italiano , decided to refuse to continue playing after the first phase of the season, which Huracán had finished in fourth place, after round winner Colón FC protested against the rating of the Game against Platense had been successful. Ultimately, the second phase of the season started - with a delay - but it did. Huracán was third. This was followed by a temporary merger with Salus FC and Villa Teresa to form Alianza FC . However, the merged club did not receive a game permit in the 2001 season because Villa Teresa and Salus FC had not paid off liabilities. He then joined the second highest professional league from 2002 to relegation at the end of the 2004 season. At the same time, there was no competition participation of a team from Huracán in one of the three highest Uruguayan leagues. In 2005 the merger club dissolved again. In the 2005 season, Huracán returned to the Liga Metropolitana de Fútbol. As fourth you qualified for the second phase of the season, in which you were knocked off and finished fourth without winning a point. In 2006 (fifth in the Apertura and fourth in the Clausura), 2007/08 (5th Apertura and 3rd Clausura) and in the 2008/09 season in the Segunda Divisional B Amateur, which was renamed since the last season, fifth and sixth followed midfield placements. In the 2009/10 season, the club from Paso de la Arena under the training direction of Héctor Herrera then won the Apertura rating by winning the play-off final over Uruguay Montevideo FC, who were tied for second place . The latter club was also opponent of the promotion and championship finals at the end of the season as Clausura winner, which Huracán decided after a 1-1 draw with 4-3 on penalties under coach Juan Duarte in his favor. Thus, the club rose to the second highest league in Uruguay and thus to professional football. A ninth place in 2010/11, followed in 2011/12 with fifth place in the table, qualifying for the promotion playoffs for the third promotion place to the Primera División . There they failed only in the two finals at Club Atlético Progreso . Progreso had won the first leg 3-1 at Huracán, so that Huracán's 2-0 away win in the second leg was ultimately not enough to advance to the top Uruguayan league for the first time. In the 2012/13 season there was no success and the team of the club actually rose to the highest amateur class, after being 14th and last in the final table in the relegation two defeats against Villa Teresa. However, the club remained in professional football despite relegation, as this was ultimately not implemented by the association. After completing the two half-series of the 2013/14 season, Huracán ranked 4th. This meant qualification for the promotion playoff round. In this one failed, however, in the second round to Central Español . In the Apertura 2014, the club's team finished 8th.
