Urumqi Air ( Chinese 烏魯木齊 航空 ) is a Chinese airline based in Ürümqi and based at Ürümqi-Diwopu Airport .

history

Urumqi Air was founded in 2014 and made its maiden flight from Urumqi-Diwopu Airport to Gulja on August 29, 2014 . It is owned by Hainan Airlines (70%) and a local government fund of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (30%). Urumqi Air has been a member of the U-FLY Alliance since 2016 .

The renunciation of the correct spelling of the place name Ürümqi in the company name of the airline is a concession to the English-speaking area and its problems with printed umlauts.

In 2019, Urumqi Air is expected to become the third airline after Chengdu Airlines and Genghis Khan Airlines - a Comac ARJ21 . The ARJ21 is the first jet-powered regional airliner, which was mainly developed and built in the People's Republic of China . The corresponding machine with the serial number 115 completed its maiden flight on October 27, 2018.
