An alien princess named Lupica searched the intergalactic database for Ataru, the greatest pervert in the universe, because he was the only one who could get a love potion. Meanwhile, there is a party in Tomobiki City. Ataru usurps every female being present at the festival, and Lum tries to prevent him from doing so. Four alien agents use the photo to search for Ataru Moroboshi, who they soon find. You urge him to come with you on an important mission. Ataru initially refuses, but can be changed immediately when Princess Lupica lands on earth. While Ataru only thinks of wedding, Lupica is after the love potion. Lum finds out about the kidnapping and sets out with Oyuki and Benten to get him back. Eventually, they find out that someone recently searched the interstellar databases for the greatest pervert in the universe.

In the meantime, Lupica has landed on her home planet, as she is about to celebrate her eighteenth birthday and then has to get married. Although there are enough applicants, she has long since chosen Rio, a flying tofu dealer. Although he does reciprocate her love, neither of them dares to admit it, which is why Lupica really wants to give him a drop of the love potion with the hope that it will fall for her immediately. Lum and her friends find a fortune teller in a restaurant who gives clues as to where the temple is where the love potion is. But Ataru has found the potion in the meantime.

Back on earth, everyone is after Ataru and the potion. He hides him with his mother and Lum finds him. When he got home, she served him a drink with a few drops of the love potion. But Ataru must first look at a girl to be effective. But he vehemently refused to look at Lum. Then Lupica storms the house, Ataru opens his eyes in shock and immediately falls for Lupica. She finds the love potion and immediately flies to her home planet, although she does not know that this love potion is just a fake. Lum is appalled by what happened to Ataru and destroys the bottle. Everyone just wants Ataru to go back to normal. Meanwhile, Lupica learns that she has been tricked because the love potion doesn't work for Rio. Benten and Oyuki saw this.

Lum, Oyuki and Benten learn from the fortune teller that just a second sip would have been enough to make Ataru normal again. At the next full moon, an extremely rare flower grows from which the love potion was originally made. That night Lum, Oyuki and Benten and also Lupica make their way to the earth to harvest this flower. There is a fight for the flower between Lum and Lupica. Oyuki and Benten search for Rio so that he can prevent the worst and confess his love for Lupica. Lum uses the flower to normalize Ataru . Rio confesses his love for Lupica and all problems are solved. In the end, Sakurambō appears, who found a 4000 year old Chinese love potion and then everyone is after the vessel again.

The film was produced by the Madhouse under the direction of Katsuhisa Yamada . The animation was directed by Kumiko Takahashi , who was also responsible for the character design and differs significantly from the anime series as well as the previous films and the OVA's. Shinichi Uehara was the artistic director and Mitsuru Kotaki composed the music.

Urusei Yatsura: Itsudatte My Darling was first shown on August 18, 1991 at the anniversary celebration in Budokan, the regular release in Japanese cinemas was on November 2, 1991 and ran as a double feature together with the film Ranma ½ - Big Trouble in Nekonron , China . The film was later released on VHS and laser disc. The first DVD was released on July 19, 2000, and another DVD was released on December 19, 2001, with the difference that the image material was newly restored from the negative and the sound is uncompressed. The film also appeared in the US, France, Italy and Spain. However, with the exception of the American dubbed version, foreign dubbed versions don't use the original mix, which is why you can't hear the original background music and effects there.
