Akira Kamiya
Akira Kamiya ( Japanese 神 谷 明 , Kamiya Akira ; born September 18, 1946 in Yokohama , Kanagawa Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese voice actor ( seiyū ).
He is known from Fist of the North Star as Kenshiro , from Detective Conan as Kogoro Mōri and from two James Bond films. He is currently represented by the Saeba Shoji Agency.
Childhood and youth
Kamiya grew up with a younger brother with his mother, nothing is known about the father. He was a member of the theater club in high school and had the intention to become an actor, but he rejected this idea and decided to become seiyū.
Career
Kamiya made her debut in 1970 with the anime Mahō no Mako-chan in the role of Senkichi . He got his first leading role a year later with Sasuke Yashima in Akakichi no Eleven . In the anime Marvelous Melmo by Tezuka Osamu, he appeared in the 24th and 26th episode in the role of Tarō Katō . In the first and second seasons and the first film by Uchū Senkan Yamato , he lent his voice to Saburō Katō . In 1978 he worked in the television series Captain Harlock , the movie of the same year and in Treasure Island . Two years later he also appeared in the third season of Uchū Senkan Yamato and the third and fourth films, but this time not in the role of Saburō Katō , but as Shiro Katō . In 1982 he was heard in the anime Urusei Yatsura by Rumiko Takahashi as Shūtarō Mendō and in the film An Officer and a Gentleman as the Japanese voice of David Caruso . He had one of his most famous roles in 1983 when he starred in Kinnikuman . A year later he took on another leading role as Kenshiro in the anime Fist of the North Star and the second season in 1987. In the 2003 OVA, he did not appear. In 1984 he lent actor Steve Guttenberg his voice in the film Police Academy .
In 1986 he could be heard as Shun Mitaka in another work by Rumiko Takahashi, Maison Ikkoku , and he was also in discussion for the 1989 anime Ranma ½ as Tatewaki Kuno , but the director chose Hirotaka Suzuoki .
Ryo Saeba , another famous role of his, he embodied in the four seasons City Hunter (1987, 1988, 1989 and 1991), the associated OVAs (1990), the movie (1989), the television specials (1996, 1997 and 1999) and in the spinoff Angel Heart 2005.
1994 and 1996 he played in the third and fifth season of Sailor Moon the adversary Dr. Soichi Tomoe . In the two James Bond films Goldeney and Tomorrow Never Dies he borrowed Pierce Brosnan his voice. In the years 1996 to 2009 he impersonated in the anime, the specials, OVAs and movies of detective Conan Kogorō Mōri. In the 1997 film Dante's Peak , he gave Pierce Brosnan his voice again. A year later he could be heard in the film In the Body of the Enemy as John Travolta . In the Disney Aladdin films he was heard as the Japanese voice of the parrot Iago. In the 2003 anime Rumiko Theater , he played two minor roles.
In recent years, Kamiya has withdrawn more and more from active life as Seiyū and teaches at Nihon Kogakuin University. His students include Megumi Toyoguchi, Ryōko Shintani and Ai Shimizu.
