Sukeban Deka ( Japanese ス ケ バ ン刑事デ カ) is a Shōjo - Manga series by Shinji Wada , which was adapted as an anime , a television series and three feature films.

Surname

Sukeban ( ス ケ バ ン ) denotes the leader of a girl gang, 刑事 stands for an investigating police officer. The kanjis are usually read as keiji , while the deka used instead is slang for a plainclothes policeman.

Manga

The manga by Shinji Wada appeared in Hakusensha's shōjo magazine Hana to Yume between January 1976 and December 1982 . The chapters were then published as Tankōbon in 22 volumes through the imprint Hana to Yume Comics .

From August 2004 to July 2005 there was a new edition as a 12-volume Kanzenban by Media Factorys Imprint MF Comics.

The manga have been sold more than 20 million times.

The juvenile offender Saki Asamiya ( 麻 宮 サ キ ) is blackmailed by the senior policeman Kurayami ( 暗闇 警 視 , Kurayama-keishi ) to work for the Tokyo police . He has already had Saki's father executed by the death penalty and promises to suspend her mother's death sentence if they cooperate. With the help of the private detective Kyōichirō Jin ( 神 恭 一郎 ), she is said to infiltrate schools for the police to uncover crimes. She is armed with a metal yo-yo , which also functions as her badge.

Adaptations

Anime

Based on the first three volumes, an OVA in two parts was published on VHS in 1991 . The director was Takeshi Hirota. The character design comes from Nobuteru Yūki . A new edition on DVD took place on February 18, 2000 .

In 1998, an English version of the OVA was published by ADV Films on VHS in the variants OmU and dubbing. Both versions appeared again on DVD on March 11, 2003.

Television series

The first season of Sukeban Deka with 24 episodes of the television series ( Dorama ) was broadcast between April 11 and October 31, 1985 on Fuji TV . This was produced by Tōei under the direction of Hideo Tanaka. The protagonist Saki Asamiya was played by the singer and actress Yuki Saitō , who also sang the final title Shiroi Honō .

Directly afterwards from November 7, 1985 to October 23, 1986, the second season of Sukeban Deka II was broadcast: Shōjo Tekkamen Densetsu ( ス ケ バ ン 刑事 II 少女 鉄 仮 面 伝 説 , dt. "~: The legend of the girl with the iron mask" ). The 42-episode series was again directed by Hideo Tanaka. The protagonist here, however, is the girl Yūko Godai ( 五代 陽 子 ; played by Yōko Minamino ) who takes the name Saki Asamiya after being freed from her iron mask . She is supported by two other sukeban : Kyōko Nakamura ( 中 村 京 子 ; played by Haruko Sagara ) and Yukino Yajima ( 矢 島 雪 乃 ; played by Akie Yoshizawa ). The first credits Naze? no Arashi was sung by the girl group Onyanko Club whose member Akie Yoshizawa was, the second and third credits - Kanashimi Monument and Kaze no Madrigal - by Yōko Minamimo.

This was immediately followed by the third season of Sukeban Deka III from October 30, 1986 to October 29, 1987 : Shōjo Nimpōchō Denki ( ス ケ バ ン 刑事 III d 忍 法帖 d , dt. About: "~: Girl ninja technology book adventure “) With 43 episodes. The protagonist here is the sukeban Yui Kazama ( 風 間 唯 ; played by Yui Asaka ), who becomes the third Saki Asamiya . All four actresses have also released a variety of albums and singles each, including the first credits Heart no Ignition by Satomi Fukunaga, the second star , the third Hitomi ni Storm , the fourth Niji no Dreamer ever by Yui Asaka and the fifth Remember by was sung to the "Kazama Sisters".

The second movie Sukeban Deka: Kazama San-shimai no Gyakushū ( ス ケ バ ン 刑事 風 間 三 姉妹 の 逆襲 , Eng. "~: Counterattack of the 3 Kazama Sisters") was released on February 11, 1988. As Sukeban Deka: Counter Attack from the Kazama Sisters , it was also released on April 11, 2006 in the United States.

On September 21, 2007, both films were released together on DVD as Sukeban Deka - Double Feature by Rapid Eye Movies in Germany. The first part under the title Sukeban Deka - The Film and the second under Sukeban Deka - The Kazama Sisters Strike Back . Such a double feature was released in the USA on March 18, 2008 as Sukeban Deka Pack .

The last movie Sukeban Deka: Codename = Asamiya Saki ( ス ケ バ ン 刑事 コ ー ド ネ ー ム = 麻 宮 サ キ ) was shown for the first time more than 8 years after the second part on September 30, 2006. This was the first time that Kenta Fukasaku directed instead of Hideo Tanaka. The cinema film does not follow on from the television series either, but is independent. The fourth Saki Asamiya is played by Aya Matsuura . As a homage to the series, Yuki Saitō plays the mother of the fourth Saki. The film was released as Yo-Yo Girl Cop on July 17, 2007 by Magnolia Pictures in the USA and on September 21, 2007 under the same title by Rapid Eye Movies in Germany.
