Life

Uta Barbara Pühringer - despite having an identical family name, she is not related to the long-time Upper Austrian Governor Josef Pühringer - entered the secondary school of the Kreuz Sisters in Linz in 1953 after attending elementary school . In 1961 she graduated from high school and then completed a one-year training as a primary school teacher. From 1962 she worked at a school in Steyregg and later in a faculty in Altenberg near Linz .

From 1970 to 1972 Pühringer trained as a speech therapist and then worked with speech-impaired children in Gallneukirchen . After two years of further training at the General Hospital in Linz, Pühringer was granted the right to work as a special school teacher in 1975 . In 1993 she was promoted to director of General Special School 4 in Linz.

Compared to her colleagues, Pühringer found her way into politics relatively late. The ÖVP party member sat from 1990 to 1994 as a councilor in the town hall of Linz. From 1996 to 1997 she sat briefly as a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament . In November 1997 she was finally elected to the Federal Council. She was a member there until October 2003. In the first half of 2002 she even chaired the body as President of the Federal Council .

Through her training, Pühringer was involved in the education sector during her time on the Federal Council and has been the regional chairwoman of the Christian Teachers' Association for Upper Austria since 1985.
