Uwe Brandl

Uwe Brandl (born October 27, 1959 in Abensberg ) is a Lower Bavarian politician of the CSU . He is mayor of the city of Abensberg, President of the Bavarian Municipal Association and President of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities . Uwe Brandl is a member of the Broadcasting Council of Bavarian Radio.

Life

After Brandl had been politically active as a member of the student union , the Junge Union and the CSU since 1974 , he graduated from the Donau-Gymnasium in Kelheim in 1980 . After his time in the army, he studied from 1982 to 1986 law with a focus on administrative and business law in Regensburg . From 1986 to 1989 he did his legal clerkship, doctorate , marriage and work as a research assistant at the chair for public law at the University of Regensburg. From 1990 to 1993 he worked as a lawyer specializing in construction and commercial law. Since 1993 he has been the first mayor of the city of Abensberg, and since 1996 a member of the district council of the Kelheim district . From 1998 to 2002 he was Second Vice President of the Bavarian Municipal Assembly , and since 2002 he has been President of the Bavarian Municipal Assembly and Vice President of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities . In 2005 Uwe Brandl was elected mayor for the third time with two opposing candidates with 63% of the vote. In 2008 he was re-elected as President of the Bavarian Community Day with 100% of the vote. In 2011 he again prevailed with 76% of the votes cast against three opposing candidates for the office of first mayor in Abensberg. On June 19, 2017, he was elected President of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities . On July 8, 2017, he was able to defend the mayor's office again; with two opposing candidates, he received 60.75% of the votes in the first ballot.

As an author and co-editor, Brandl published various municipal-related specialist books and articles. He has also published a volume of poems and stories for "children big and small".
