Uwe E. Reinhardt

Uwe Ernst Reinhardt (born September 24, 1937 in Osnabrück ; † November 13, 2017 in Princeton (New Jersey) ) was an economist.

Life

Reinhardt was born in Lower Saxony in 1937 and emigrated to Canada , where he completed a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Saskatchewan . At Yale University , he completed a doctorate in economics and graduated with a PhD in economics in 1970 with the thesis An Economic Analysis of Physicians' Practices . He has taught political economy at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University since 1970 and was most recently the James Madison Professor of Political Economy .

Reinhardt was a well-known scientist in the field of health economics and advisor to the World Bank, states and government organizations worldwide. He was a critic of the US health system . He made many comparisons with the health systems of other countries, which spend a much smaller proportion of GDP on it, but which achieve just as good results.
