Uwe Knüpfer

Uwe Knüpfer (born January 24, 1955 in Herne ) is a German journalist and book author. Among other things, he worked as editor-in-chief for the WAZ media group and for the social democratic monthly newspaper Vorwärts .

Life

After an internship at the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ), Uwe Knüpfer worked from 1984 to 1990 as a reporter, science editor and press spokesman (for the Ministry of Science and Research North Rhine-Westphalia). From 1990 to 1992 he was part of the WAZ Bonn office. From 1992 to 2000 he reported on North American politics as a foreign correspondent based in Washington, DC for a number of German and Austrian newspapers. In the years 2000–2005 Uwe Knüpfer was editor-in-chief of the WAZ. In 2006 he founded the LOZ Verlag, initially in Essen , then in Düsseldorf and published the local online newspaper onruhr from 2006 to 2007. onruhr was a daily newspaper for the Ruhr area, designed in PDF format and distributed solely via the Internet . On October 1, 2010, he took up his new position as editor-in-chief at the Berliner Vorwärts- Verlag, succeeding Uwe-Karsten Heye .

In the summer of 2012, he applied against Michelle Müntefering and Anke Hildenbrand to stand as a candidate for the 2013 federal election in the constituency of Herne / Bochum II. At the sub-district party conference in Herne on September 11, 2012, 18 of the delegates voted for Knüpfer, 85 for Müntefering and 53 for Hildenbrand. At the end of 2012 he was replaced by Karin Nink as editor-in-chief . He wrote several political books. Since 2015 he has been the editor-in-chief of Schnecke , the trade journal of the German Cochlear Implant Society . Furthermore, so far (2019) he has written two Tenerife crime novels under the pseudonym Armand Amapolas.

Knüpfer is married and has two grown sons.
