Uwe Theimer

Thorsten Uwe Theimer (born July 9, 1944 in Prague ) is an Austrian conductor and composer.

Live and act

Theimer received his basic musical training from the Vienna Boys' Choir . He then studied at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts, today's University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . His teacher in composition was Alfred Uhl . Hans Swarowsky taught him conducting .

Theimer directed important Austrian choirs such as the Chorus Viennensis . He was Kapellmeister of the Vienna Boys' Choir and répétiteur at the Vienna State Opera . He worked at the Salzburg Festival as musical assistant for Karl Böhm , Lorin Maazel and James Levine . In 1999 Theimer became director of the Lower Austrian Operetta Summer in Langenlois , of which he had been artistic director since 1996.

Theimer has been a full professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna since 2000 (he retired in 2013) and head of studies at the Vienna Volksoper . Concerts as a conductor and song accompanist as well as master classes take him regularly to Japan and the USA.

Theimer is the first conductor of the orchestra at the Vienna Opera Ball . He was involved in the founding of the Vienna Classic Symphony Orchestra, the Wiener Strausskapelle and the Wiener Waltz Soloists.

As an arranger and composer, he works for chamber ensembles, orchestras and television productions. He recorded CDs with several orchestras and soloists.
