Uwe Zimmermann (born May 2, 1952 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. In the years between 1972 and 1988 he played in the second-rate GDR league .

Athletic career

When in 1973 the company sports association (BSG) Stahl Riesa had fought to return to the upper house of GDR football after a one-year absence from the GDR league , Uwe Zimmermann was also involved in this success as a goalkeeper. However, he had contributed to this with just one stake. As a rule, he played with the 2nd team in the third-class district league Dresden , which he helped in the same season as promotion to the GDR league. 1973/74 Zimmermann was neither in the league, for which Stahl reported Manfred Kallenbach and Wolfgang Scharf before the start of the season, nor in the GDR league. In the following seasons he was not part of the squad of the league team, and the 2nd team rose again after a year in the district league. Without being used in the league, Zimmermann stayed with Stahl Riesa until the end of the 1975/76 season.

For the 1976/77 season, Zimmermann joined the BSG activist Black Pump , which was based in Hoyerswerda and was supported by the Black Pump Gas Combine as a carrier company . In the GDR league team, he was initially a substitute goalkeeper behind the regular goalkeeper Jörg Hellpoldt and only came once as a substitute. In the next few seasons Zimmermann was nominated as number one in goal. In the 66 league games from 1977/78 to 1979/80, however, he only made 31 missions and initially had to deal with Hellpoldt and later with Peter Fritzsche. From the 1980/81 season on, Zimmermann was the undisputed goalkeeper of the BSG activist. In 1985/86 he received competition from Jens Trötschel, who was 14 years his junior, both of whom made 16 points each. For the 1986/87 season Zimmermann was nominated as the first goalkeeper, but did not play in any of the 34 GDR league games. After he was not in the league team at all in 1987/88, he was goalkeeper no. 3 in the first team of the BSG activist in the season 1988/89. He played the first three GDR league games, but was not reinstated after that.

At the end of the season he had reached the age of 37 and ended his career as a footballer in the performance area. In his twelve GDR league seasons, he had come to 165 missions in the second-rate league.
