The Uzunçayır Dam ( Turkish Uzunçayır Barajı ) is located on Munzur Çayı south of the provincial capital Tunceli in the eastern Turkish province of the same name .
The Uzunçayır Dam was built on behalf of the state water authority DSİ in the years 1994–2009 as a sand / gravel embankment with a clay core . The dam is used to generate energy . The dam is 58 m high (above the valley floor) and has a volume of 2.8 million m³. The associated reservoir has a water surface of 13.43 km² and a storage volume of 308 million m³. The hydropower plant of the Uzunçayır dam has three Francis turbines of 32 megawatts each . Originally, three 24 MW turbines were planned. The standard energy capacity is estimated at 317 GWh per year. Down the river the Munzur Çayı flows into the reservoir of the Keban Dam .
As a result of a drought, the reservoir reached its lowest level since the dam was built in February 2014. The hydropower plant only worked with one turbine. The flow was 24 m³ instead of 57 m³ as in the previous year.
