Válega is a small town and municipality in Portugal . It is located on the waterfront of the Ria de Aveiro .

history

Today's place was probably created in the course of settlement policy during the Christian Reconquista in the Middle Ages. In 1150 Válega already existed as an independent municipality.

King Don Manuel I renewed Válega's previous city rights on June 2, 1514, under the then place name Pereira Jusã .

On July 9, 1985 Válega was elevated to a small town ( Vila ).

Válega is a parish ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Ovar , in the district of Aveiro . It has 6,827 inhabitants on an area of ​​27 km² (as of June 30, 2011).

Válega is located with its own stop on the most important railway line in the country, the Linha do Norte .

The national road N109 crosses the small town of Válega, which is also on the A29 motorway (the closest exit is Ovar-Sul), which runs parallel to the A1 here .

Local public transport in the Ovar district is ensured by a minibus line run by the city administration ( Câmara Municipal de Ovar ), and private bus operators also maintain regional bus connections, mostly under public concession.

Personalities

Bishop António Valente da Fonseca (1884–1972) was born here.

The poet Glória de Sant'Anna (1925–2009) died here.
