The Autoestrada A1 or Auto-Estrada do Norte (German North Motorway ) is the longest motorway in Portugal with 303 km and part of European route 1 . The motorway begins in Lisbon and ends in Porto and, as the connection between the two largest cities with connections to Coimbra and Leiria, represents the most important motorway in Portugal. The A1 is operated by the private BRISA and is therefore mostly subject to a toll .
