The Autoestrada A5 or Auto-Estrada da Costa do Estoril is a motorway in Portugal . The motorway starts in Lisbon and ends in Cascais .

history

It was the first motorway in Portugal and one of the first in the world. When it opened in 1944, the motorway ended at the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras County . At that time it had the status of a national road and was called National Road 7 . In 1959, part of the road was used at the Portuguese Grand Prix on the Circuito de Monsanto in Parque Florestal de Monsanto near Lisbon.
