Víctor Merenda

Víctor Merenda (born August 31, 1923 in Cannes , Alpes-Maritimes department , † January 17, 1968 in Arles , Bouches-du-Rhône department ) was a French film director , screenwriter and actor .

life and career

Born in 1923 in the French city of Cannes in the Alpes-Maritimes department , Merenda began his film career in 1951 as an actor with a supporting role in the French drama Guilty by director Yvan Noé. In the same year another small role followed in Bernard Vorhaus romantic comedy Pardon My French with Paul Henreid and Merle Oberon in the leading roles. But since acting was not enough for him, he began to work as an assistant director in 1955 , first at André Pargament's production The Black Face of Paris , then at Tant qu'il y aura des femmes under the director Edmond T. Gréville .

In 1957 Merenda made his feature film debut with the crime film The Mauguin Case or The Eight Black Women , starring Geneviève Kervine , Élina Labourdette and Christine Carrère . In 1959, the literary film adaptation of André Maurois' novel Guten Tag, I Am Your Murderer with Henri Vidal and Lino Ventura in the leading roles. In 1963 he shot the Spanish-French co-production No temas a la ley , for which he also wrote the screenplay. In 1964 he finally worked alongside director Christian-Jaque as Second Unit Director on the coat and sword adventure The Black Tulip with Alain Delon . In 1968, shortly before his death, he worked with director Ken Annakin on his crime comedy The Platinum Gang .

Víctor Merenda died on January 17, 1968 at the age of 44 in Arles.
