History and shape

A relatively large number of villages in Köthener Land erected a memorial complex in 1913 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig . These are often similar in structure, only differing in details. What they have in common is the vertical boulder , which serves as an inscription stone, in the majority of cases, including in Elsnigk, it stands on a pile of larger and smaller stones.

In Elsnigk the stone bears the simple inscription 1813/1913 , for which a text field was created with white paint. The otherwise quite typical Iron Cross seems to be missing here. Due to this simple design, the Völkerschlachtdenkmäler belong to the border area of the war memorials , as they are denied an artistic value.
