The church

Elsnigk is a district of the municipality Osternienburger Land in the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Elsnigk is located between Dessau-Roßlau and Köthen (Anhalt) on the edge of the Middle Elbe river landscape biosphere reserve .

Würflau was designated as a district of the former municipality .

history

Elsnigk was first mentioned in a document in 1349.

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent communities of Elsnigk, Chörau , Diebzig , Dornbock , Drosa , Zabitz , Großpaschleben , Kleinpaschleben , Libbesdorf , Rosefeld , Micheln , Osternienburg , Reppichau , Trinum and Wulfen merged to form a single community of Osternienburger Land. At the same time, the administrative community Osternienburg , to which these communities belonged, was dissolved.

Memorials

• Gravesites in the local cemetery for six Soviet prisoners of war who had to do forced labor in the Elsnigk sugar factory during the Second World War and who died in 1941 from the catastrophic living conditions.

The coat of arms was approved by the district on October 20, 2009.

Blazon : "In blue on a golden shield base, a black grooved silver chimney between a golden alder branch with three leaves and flowers at the front and two golden ears with stalk leaves at the back, the base of the shield covered with a black miner's toe."

On the recommendation of the Heimatverein Elsnigk eV, the local council decided to include the following symbols in the coat of arms: An alder branch - based on the place name. Chimney - reminds of Elsnigk's longstanding landmark, the chimney of the former sugar factory. Ears of grain - as a reference to agriculture and mallets and iron - in connection with mining. Gold and blue were chosen as tinctures, with blue reflecting the water, because the brown coal underground mining has created many ponds and small lakes in the area around the municipality.

The coat of arms was designed by the municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch and included in the approval process.

The colors of the former municipality are: gold (yellow) - blue.

Partnerships

Partnerships are maintained with the French community Tosiatt and Hackenheim from Rhineland-Palatinate .

South of Elsnigk, the federal highway 185 runs from Bernburg (Saale) via Köthen to Dessau.

Elsnigk has a train station on the Dessau – Köthen line .
