The Völser Weiher ( Italian Lago di Fiè ) is a lake in the Sciliar area in South Tyrol ( Italy ).
location
The Völser Weiher is located at an altitude of 1,036 m in a forest in front of the western wall of the Sciliar . The closest localities are the capital of the municipality of Völs am Schlern in the south-west and the St. Konstantin fraction in the north-west . Exactly to the east and a little higher on the slope is the Huberweiher , which is roughly the same size , and a little further to the northwest is the smaller Gfliererweiher . The lake is accessible by several hiking trails from different directions as well as a road that ends a few meters southwest of the lake. It is part of the Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park .
topography
The pond is about 1 hectare and has a catchment area of only 0.136 km². With a maximum depth of 3.5 m, it holds a total volume of 2000 m³. Reed divides the lake into two halves, of which the southern one is designated as a protected biotope .
The pond is drained by a brook that flows to the southwest and flows into the Schlernbach .
ecology
The Völser Weiher is classified as mesotrophic and is threatened by eutrophication due to its shallow depth and the small volume of water . As a protective measure, an artificial inflow was built in 1979, which ensures an increased water exchange. In the 1980s, the reed belt was reduced and sediment was withdrawn to stop the silting process.
Analyzes of the water quality with regard to suitability as a bathing lake yielded very good results.
Human use
The Völser Weiher, like the nearby Gfliererweiher, was probably created as a fish pond by the Lords of Völs-Colonna, who resided at Prösels Castle.
Fishing is now forbidden and the pond serves as a recreational area for bathers and hikers.
Literary mentions
The third act of Arthur Schnitzler's Das weite Land takes place at the Völser Weiher and in the Grand Hotel adjacent to it. In the fourth act, the Völser Weiher is used on the one hand as a location and on the other hand as a love metaphor for the main female character, Genia Hofreiter.
