Věra Bílá

Věra Bílá (born May 22, 1954 in Rokycany , † March 12, 2019 in Pilsen ) was a Czech singer from the Roma people .

Life

Věra Bílá was born as one of six children of the famous singer Karol Giňa. The family grew up in poor conditions. She learned the songs of her people from her mother very early on. At the age of seven, Věra made her first appearances, mostly in her village or in the surrounding communities.

Věra Bílá, along with Iva Bittová and Ida Kellarová, was one of the most famous Romni singers in the Czech Republic, and she was also able to play the cymbal , piano and guitar . However, she mostly left the musical accompaniment to her band Kale , she limited herself to singing. She toured the United States for the first time with her band in May 1999, followed by a concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in August .

Věra Bílá last lived in her hometown Rokycany in simple circumstances. After a long and serious illness, she rarely made public appearances. In 2011 Věra Bílá had to leave her house due to high debts and move to a ghetto for the homeless. In January 2013, her adopted son was found dead. Shortly afterwards, her husband also died at the age of 59.
