history

After the war, on May 12, 1945, the rebuilding of the Hietzing VHS began in the settlers' home of the SAT ( Auhofer Trennstück settlement ) on Sillerplatz. Karl Swoboda, a railroad worker, and his wife Maria started with a lending library. Various club changes led to the name Volkshochschule Hietzing on January 13, 1947. The first years after the war were marked by hardship. Efforts in 1947 were aimed at getting coal for heating and improving the nutritional situation of the speakers.

building

The VHS building in Hofwiesengasse was built between 1971 and 1974 according to plans by the architect Fred Freyler . In 2001, the facade was designed by the painter Martin Praska on the subject of adult education with path representations in various degrees of severity. In 2014 Markus Tripolt designed the facade with the main color white.
