VIVO (software)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

VIVO is a web-based open source - software for managing and representation of research information on researchers and scientists. VIVO is based on linked data techniques to present people, their skills and their research activities.

history

VIVO was originally developed at Cornell University from 2003 . In 2009, the National Institutes of Health of the University of Florida , Cornell University, Indiana University , Weill Cornell Medical College, and others granted a $ 12.2 million grant to make the software available for use outside of Cornell University to expand. In the following years VIVO developed into a community-based software with users and developers all over the world. The German-speaking community meets regularly at the German VIVO workshops. There is an annual conference at international level.

VIVO is now used by over 150 universities and non-university research institutions in over 25 countries, including a. the Duke University , University of Miami , Texas A & M in the US, the Universita degli Studi the Milano in Italy and the Tecnologico de Monterrey. In Germany, for example, VIVO is used by the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, the University of Osnabrück and the Technical Information Library (TIB). At the TIB, VIVO also serves as a starting point for various research and development projects.

The VIVO project has an organizational roof at the non-profit organization Lyrasis. Until the merger with Lyrasis, the VIVO project was part of DuraSpace.
