Vacant Coffin is a Finnish death metal and deathgrind band from Joensuu that was formed in 2007.
history
The band was founded in early 2007 by bassist and singer Jussi Nyblom and guitarist and singer Lasse Pyykkö. Both already knew each other from their previous joint activity at Phlegethon . However, since Nyblom didn't have time for the band, Pyykkö single-handedly recorded the demo The Thrashed Supper in 2007. Shortly after the release, the line-up was supplemented by bassist Petri "Pete" Konsti and drummer Pekka Koskelo. The debut album Sewer Skullpture was released in 2008 on the US label Razorback Records .
style
Luxi Lahtinen from metal-rules.com assigned Sewer Skullpture to Deathgrind, where he heard influences from Autopsy , Terrorizer , Repulsion and Napalm Death . The music is aggressive and fast, with a focus on horror and gore . Scott Alisoglu from Blabbermouth.net attributed the album more to old-school death metal. In addition to occasional similarities to Terrorizer and Impetigo , the band mainly uses early Swedish death metal. In the songs, the band makes use of both groovy passages and blastbeats . There are also atmospheric moments, such as the horror film intros from Sewer by the Cemetery played by keyboards and the slow Razor Justice .
