Razorback Records is a 1999 by Billy Nocera founded and now together (geehelichten in 2010) with his wife Vanessa-run American music label from Henderson in the state of Kentucky . The label specializes in more extreme forms of heavy metal , especially bands from the fields of death metal , goregrind and thrash metal .

history

The musical preferences of label founder Billy Nocera go back to the 1980s and early 1990s and include: a. Grave , Bolt Thrower , Carcass , Impetigo , Autopsy , Entombed , Kreator , Slayer, and early Metallica . The dissatisfaction with the music scene in the 1990s - too many epigones in his view - led to the long-cherished intention of setting up his own label in November 1999. Conceptually, he linked his second preference for horror films and comics. He had previously been with Be A Freak Records out a label, as well as its co-founder Jill with on death metal specialist label Mortal Coil Records .

The first release was "Death Metal Attack 2" by Engorged in 1999 , followed by two compilations . In the first five years 31 records were released, the 32nd was “Sinfonías Del Terror Ciego” by Machetazo .

distribution

According to the founder of the label, the type of music and some of the covers make distribution more difficult, as the sound carriers are not attractive to regular stationary retailers as underground music and the covers at Wal-Mart in the USA could lead to lawsuits. In Japan, on the other hand, sales are ideal. Elsewhere, Nocera explained that “sold phonograms” is only a limited benchmark for this type of music, since a substantial part is exchanged with other record companies. “Pressed phonograms” is therefore a more appropriate expression.

Out of personal as well as entrepreneurial convictions, Nocera rejects the distribution of sound carriers on vinyl: On the one hand, he prefers CDs and, on the other hand, it costs 2,000 USD to produce just 300 records. It is only attractive for Ebay sellers to sell "rare records".
