Vacas is a town in the Cochabamba Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Vacas is the central place of the district (Bolivian: Municipio ) Vacas in the province of Arani . The village is located in a high basin without drainage at an altitude of 3469 m . Near the place is the lake Laguna Acero Khocha , which, together with two other lakes in the basin, absorbs the streams and small rivers that flow down from the mountain ranges up to 4,200 m high.

Vacas is located in the northwestern part of the Cordillera Oriental , the easternmost mountain range of the Bolivian high mountains. The climate of the region is characterized by a typical time of day climate , in which the daily temperature fluctuations are more pronounced than the seasonal fluctuations.
The annual average temperature is 12 ° C (see climate diagram), the temperatures in the winter months of June / July are just under 10 ° C and in November / December a little more than 14 ° C. The annual precipitation is 550 mm and reaches values of 100 to 120 mm in the summer months from December to February, while in the arid months from May to September hardly any precipitation falls.

Vacas lies at a distance of 84 kilometers by road southeast of Cochabamba , the capital of the department of the same name.
From Cochabamba the paved road Ruta 7 leads in a south-easterly direction 41 kilometers to San Benito , from there a dirt road further south-east via Punata to Arani and on to Vacas.

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a significant proportion of Quechua population, in the Municipio Vacas 99.3 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
