The Vachères is a mountain river in France that runs in the Hautes-Alpes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region . It rises first under the name Torrent du Grand Vallon near the border with Italy, on the northeast flank of the mountain peak Tête de l'Aupet (2870 m), in the municipality of Les Orres . The river first drains north, then swings west to northwest and flows into the Durance as a left tributary after 22 kilometers in the municipality of Embrun above the Lac de Serre-Ponçon reservoir .
