Valcour is an island about 3 km long and one and a half kilometers wide in Lake Champlain in the USA in the state of New York , which forms a narrow point towards the mainland. It is the third largest island in Lake Champlain, after "The Heros" and "Isle la Motte of Vermont". Their shores have alternating rocky, rugged and sandy beaches. Several sheltered bays offer anchorages. The lighthouse Bluff Point Light is at the west end of the island. He guided the boats through the narrow passage from 1871 to 1930 , until it was replaced by a steel tower.

On October 11, 1776 , during the American War of Independence , the naval battle called the Battle of Valcour was fought between British and American naval forces.
