The municipality ( municipio ) is the most populous district in the state of Carabobo . The city of Valencia covers more than half of the district. There are agricultural regions in the south, but these are quickly being replaced by slums.

Valencia is one of the most important industrial cities in Venezuela. Ford and several major food industries have centers here.
